Surviving Drug Addiction

Surviving drug addiction is a monumental challenge for both the addict and for those who love him. For the addict, it’s the struggle of breaking free from a hellish existence and dealing daily with cravings that feel like they’ll never go away.

For those who love an addict, the husband, wife, son, daughter, mom or dad, it means putting up with a Jekyll and Hyde personality - sweet, bright and loving one moment, and then dull, surly and dangerous the next.

And then there’s the money that keeps disappearing, the calls from the police in the middle of the night, the jail sentences, and the stony silences. Dreams dashed and joy stolen.

The Ironies of Drug Addiction

Addiction is laced with so many ironies. The addict can occasionally escape his troubles by getting high, while the suffering of loved ones never ends.

What’s worse is more times than not, it is the “golden child” - the child with the most promise, the family favorite, the best-looking and most gifted one who succumbs to drug addiction and is eventually destroyed by it. If, that is, he or she doesn’t get early intervention.

Our Purpose

The purpose of this site is to explore the reasons why our beautiful young people become addicted to drugs and how they can break free, and how loved ones can help and be helped.

Surviving drug addiction is possible, but it takes hard work and perseverance. It is a step-by-step journey that must be taken by both the addict and those who love him.

Surviving drug addiction means wanting healing badly enough to walk away from drugs and to face the truth. It’s realizing that you cannot beat it in your own strength. It’s learning to change the way you think about life and to change your circle of influence.

Overcoming a drug addiction is an achievable goal and essential, if you want any quality of life. It is my hope that these pages will help show you how.
