Praying Against Drug Addiction

Praying against drug addiction is crucial to learning to live day by day without drugs. It is also sometimes the hardest part of a drug addicts recovery.

If you are struggling with a drug addiction or love someone who is, you know that self control will never cut it. The addiction has a power all its own and simply making up your mind to resist it won’t work.

The Crux of the Matter

And there's the crux of the matter. The problem people usually have with praying against drug addiction is their failure to believe in God.

Is There a God?

These days, a lot of people don't think so, but that doesn't mean they're correct. If you have attended public school, if you have ever picked up a copy of National Geographic, or if you have ever watched a science program on public television, you have likely been indoctrinated in the religion of secular humanism, the belief that we were not created but rather evolved. Many "experts" will tell you the Bible is nothing more than a fairy tale.

So how do you know if the Bible is true and that praying against drug addiction will really work?

History Defined

In his book The New Evidence That Demands A Verdict Fully Updated To Answer The Questions Challenging Christians Today, author Josh McDowell, defines history as "a knowledge of the past based on testimony." McDowell gives Abraham Lincoln as an example and asks, "Do you believe Lincoln lived and was president of the United States?"

Inevitably, the reply is yes. All of us believe that Lincoln was president of the United States. But, as McDowell points out, no one in our times has ever seen or personally observed Lincoln. It is only through physical, verbal and written testimony that we know that Lincoln exists.

So What About Jesus Christ?

So is there any physical, verbal or written testimony that Jesus Christ was indeed all He said He was? Is praying against drug addiction, especially asking Jesus for help, going to work?

One Archaeologist's Study

Sir William Ramsay is considered to be one of the greatest archaeologists to have ever lived. After studying the Gospel of Luke, the new testament chapter of Acts, and the author Luke as an historian in general, Ramsay concluded, "…not merely are (Luke's) statements of fact trustworthy…this author should be placed along with the very greatest of historians."¹

The Bible is indeed historically trustworthy. And if it is trustworthy, then Jesus is indeed who He said He was. Believing in Jesus and praying for His help will indeed help you in your recovery.
